Frequently asked

How do I get music into Woodshed?

Two ways: pick an audio file from Files or iCloud Drive (always works — m4a, mp3, wav, and other formats iOS can play), or paste a link to a hosted audio file — a direct URL, a Dropbox share link, or a Google Drive link. Paste several links at once and they import as a background queue.

Why can't I hear any difference when I slow a loop down?

Check the speed pills on the player — 1× is full speed and 0.5× is half speed. The pitch never changes when you slow down; that's by design, so a line stays in key while you learn it.

How does practice-time tracking work?

Woodshed counts time only while audio is actually playing — pausing stops the clock. Loop practice, Listen-mode listening, and the manual on-instrument timer are tracked as three separate meters, charted on the Stats tab across the week, month, year, or all time.

Can I move my library to a new phone?

Yes. Settings → Export library writes your entire library — songs, audio, loops, tags, and practice history — into a single backup file you can save to Files or iCloud. On the new device, use Import from backup and choose Merge or Replace.

Does Woodshed need an account?

No account, no sign-up, no subscription. Everything lives on your device — see the privacy policy for the full (short) story.

Playback stops when my screen locks. What gives?

Woodshed supports background and lock-screen playback, and it plays even with the ringer on silent. If playback ever stops when the screen locks, force-quit the app and reopen it, and make sure Low Power Mode isn't aggressively pausing background audio.

What do the AirPods taps do?

While a queue is playing in Listen mode, a double-tap skips ahead and a triple-tap goes back — handy for jumping between solos with the phone in your pocket.
